BOOK PITCH 2020

GUIDELINES

Eligibility

Both categories of The Inspire Teen Reads Book Pitch 2020 are open to youth ages 12 to 18 residing in Canada. Because Inspire is dedicated to showcasing unique young voices, we highly encourage those from marginalized communities to participate.

Categories

The Inspire Teen Reads Book Pitch 2020 is composed of two separate categories: The Book Pitch Competition, and The Book Jacket Design Competition. These categories are separate and thus will be evaluated using different criteria and judging panels.

The Book Pitch Category

The Book Pitch category is divided into 2 rounds.

Round One

Contestants must submit their pitch of an existing book either in the form of a written pitch, OR a video recording, by July 31st, 2020. When presented, the pitch should last no more than 5 minutes. Finalists will then be chosen from the pool of submissions by our panel of judges, and will move onto the second (and final) round of the competition.

Round Two

The finalists will be invited to present their pitch once more to our panel of judges as part of The Word On the Street Festival taking place on August 20th, 2020. The top three winners will be announced by the end of the event and awarded prizes.

The Book Pitch category winners will receive the following prizes:

1st Place: $200

2nd Place: $100

3rd Place: $50

Audience Choice Award: TBA

The Book Jacket Design Category

The Book Jacket Design category is divided into 2 rounds.

Round One

Contestants must submit their book jacket design of an existing book along with a 250-400 words statement explaining the key ideas and elements behind their design by July 31st, 2020. Finalists will then be chosen from the pool of submissions by our panel of judges, and will move onto the second (and final) round of the competition.

Round Two

The finalists' statements and designs will be reviewed by our panel of judges once more as part of  The Word On the Street Festival taking place on August 20th, 2020. The top three winners will be announced by the end of the event and awarded prizes.

The top 3 Book Jacket Design category submissions will receive $50 each.

Contestants are allowed to submit to both categories, but only one submission is allowed per category.

Deadline to Submit your Entry

Submissions to both the Book Pitch category, and the Book Jacket Design category are due by July 31st at 11:59PM EST.
