Who can participate?

Youth, aged 12-18, who live in Canada.

What categories can I enter?

This year we are offering two categories:

1) The Book Pitch Category: Pitch a book to our panel of judges in any format (speech, poem, song, etc.) under 5 minutes.

2) The Book Jacket Design Category: Redesign the book jacket of your favourite book with a 250-400 word explanation of your design choices.

WHAT KIND OF BOOKS CAN I PITCH AND/OR REDESIGN?

We welcome pitches and redesigns of already published books from any genre and format----from graphic novels to science fiction, autobiographies to how-to guides! However, any pitch or re-design involving a book discriminatory in nature will not be allowed.

What are the prizes?

The winners for the Book Pitch category will receive the following prizes:

1st Place: $200

2nd Place: $100

3rd Place: $50

Audience Choice Award: TBA

The top 3 submissions for the Book Jacket Design category will receive $50 each.

What should my entry consist of?

1) The Book Pitch Category: A written version of your pitch OR a recording of your pitch. When presented, your pitch should be less than 5 minutes.

2) The Book Jacket Design Category: Your book jacket design AND a 250-400 word statement on your design.

Can I submit to both categories?

Yes! But only one submission will be allowed PER category. 

When is my entry due?

Entries to BOTH categories are due by July 31st, 2020 at 11:59 EST. 

When will I be contacted about the second round?

After July 31st, our judges will review submissions to both categories. Finalists will be contacted by early August.

When is the second round?

The second round for both categories will take place on August 20th, 2020 as part of The Word on the Street Festival. 

WheRE WILL the second round BE HELD?

Finalists will compete in the second (and final) round online using The Word on the Street's online platform. The competition will also be live streamed to YouTube, where viewers can tune in and vote.
